New Bumps for the Day

Rather than theming today's post, i thought I'd just put up some music that, above all other criteria, just simply deserve a listen.

First, the excellent English DJ S-Type just dropped a remix of T-Pain's "Rap Song (feat. Rick Ross)". The feel of the song reminds me of Miami Vice or Boogie Nights, if T-Pain had a mustache and a pastel-colored polo on. Think 80's glitz and glam meets B.M.F. meets playing Afterburner on the original arcade platform.

Second, I think I've been leaving Canada out of the musical conversation on this blog as of late. Thus, enter Lunice, a Montreal native and MPC master. He's been leaking tracks on the daily from his twitter account, and "Freaky", dropped today, constitutes a highlight. A stuttering mix of cut-up vocal samples and bumping organ-esque synth lines, the song is supposedly built to breakdance to. Download away and start cutting a rug.

And here, Lunice's excellent "Out of Touch". A beautiful funky coexistence of R&B samples and Akai MPC futuristic fly shit. Grab a listen below.

New Bibio album out March 28th!

Bibio, the one man sound collagist and funkified pastoral beatmaker based in the UK, is set to release his latest full length album on March 28th, according to a post on his label Warp Records' website. An album sampler is available here and on the website, so fans can get a feel for the sound and textures of "Mind Bokeh". No individual singles have been officially released to date, but check back soon. I'm looking, and will try to get a full song off the new album up ASAP.

And a past Bibio song, "Fire Ant", a personal favorite of mine.

Living Proof - Full Speed

Only the freshest NW beats will do. Local Portland hip-hop group Living Proof is set to release their sophomore album "Full Speed" on 1.4.11, or tommorrow, for those of you tuning in. The album features Abstract Rude and Planet Asia among other notables, and if all of the tracks on the album are as creative, tight, and fresh sounding as the one in the player below... lets just say incredible album and leave it at that. I'm on the edge of my seat for this release. Oh, and if you're around PDX on January 7th, The Someday Lounge is hosting the "Full Speed" album release party. Its 21+, so those of you with legal ID's be sure to check it out. LP will be performing of course, along with a whole showcase of local talent. Do not miss.

Beach House - I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun

Here's a little "holiday" track for you. As the winter cold seeps in a little bit more each day, Beach House always succeeds in warming you up and maintaining your melancholy mood at the same time. Here's a new single from the awesome Midwest-area band, entitled "I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun". Enjoy with a cup of hot irish coffee. Nothing like a little Jameson to take the season's edge off.

Gatekeeper

Somehow transcending the barrier between ridiculous and rad, Gatekeeper is a two man NY synth music phantasm of sound. Their spoken aspiration as a band is to "score a cheesy interdimensional sci-fi/horror movie" and, unsurprisingly, that's a very accurate description of their sound. The only two things I can think of while I listen to Gatekeeper is Angelina Jolie in the movie "Hackers" and old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles VHS tapes. Gatekeeper's first LP "Giza" is available now, and comes included with a VHS of six music videos, of course shot with more than a fair share of campy horror movie panache. Totally tubular, dude!

Toro Y Moi

Toro Y Moi is the moniker of Chazwick Bundick, a sample-heavy troubadour of a producer from Columbia, South Carolina. Bundick began creating music in high school, but his days in the indie rock band The Heist and The Accomplice are a far cry from the slick chill-wave funk and disco jams he's been cranking out as a solo project. Signed to Carpark Records, Bundick released his first full length "Causers of This" in January 2010, and the album is one of my choices for album of the year. His follow up, "Underneath the Pine" is due out on February 22, 2011. Below, I've included a playlist of past Toro Y Moi beats and bumps, as well as the latest single from "Underneath the Pine". Check it please don't wreck it.
